Windows Phone “NoDo” May Not Show Until March

In unfortunate news for Windows Phone 7 users, many are reporting sources (including a Samsung rep) which claims that the first OS updated labeled “NoDo” which was tentatively scheduled for January/February 2011, is not going to hit consumers until March, specifically the 8th of March.
It’s still unclear on who is to blame for the update. Mary Jo Foley claims that Microsoft polished up NoDo by years end in 2010, so it’s believed that either the carriers or device manufacturers (htc, Dell, Samsung, LG…) are the ones holding up the update from being pushed out to the devices.
Microsoft is expected to announce an official statement about NoDo at next weeks World Mobile Congress. This will also be on the heals of an expected announcement tomorrow regarding Microsoft’s acquisition of Nokia as a device maker for Windows Phone 7. As for now, Microsoft’s official statement regarding the update is this:
“No further information as to timing has been released beyond what we already shared at CES,” a company spokesperson said. At CES, CEO Steve Ballmer said there would be a series of updates released for the phone over the “next few months.”
Microsoft is doing exactly what it absolutely cannot do if it expects to compete with established platforms like iOS and Android. The promise of updates rolling early and often was what Redmond spoke about during the early days of Windows Phone and even though it’s only been a few months, an update pushed back to March would be bad news for those holding out on purchasing a Windows Phone device.
